Alphabet Publishing produces unique graded readers for English students, perfect for extensive reading. What makes them so special? Our readers are Story First, Language Second. Story First means high-interest stories with memorable characters, intriguing plot twists, and engaging themes. Stories good enough that students want to read them, despite language obstacles. Good stories come from creativity and imagination, not national curriculum or market research.
Our books are graded to make the language accessible, but in a way that doesn’t distort the grammar and vocabulary and present unnatural language. Instead we employ natural supports for words and structures that might give trouble. That way, students can read fluently without stopping to check a dictionary or grammar book.
Story First, Graded Readers are designed to be adaptable to a range of classrooms. So while we encourage extensive reading, we’ve put in supports appropriate to the content and the level of the book. Those might include introductory questions, comprehension or discussion questions, writing prompts, and more!
